Also recognized as wine country, Livermore California is a city in Alameda County, California, with an estimated 2014 population of 86,870. The Livermore Valley is home to many wineries, a delightful downtown, a classic Bankhead Theater, and hold festivities such as The Livermore Rodeo, and The Shakespeare Festival. Locally its residents and visitors unwind at the secluded Del Valle Regional Park and Lake, and at Livermore’s extensive parks and trails.
Livermore has a Winegrowers Association that is dedicated to advance and promote the quality wines, vineyards and experiences of the Livermore Wine country, with continuous events that help the businesses grow and prosper; such as Barrel Tasting Weekends, Put a Cork in It, and Chocolate Port Cup and Dessert Wine Casimira amongst many others. A special event that is also held at the wineries and has grown to be widely recognized is the Livermore Shakespeare Festival which draws performers from all around the nation. This festival was born upon the appreciation of the rhetoric and poetry of the English language and a desire to create and celebrate a rich vibrant community who connect to their own humanity and the humanity of others. As you approach downtown you will be delightfully surprised by its laid back downtown. It has become ever popular due to its sidewalk dining experiences and the welcoming community that meet here for everything from a sip of delicious coffee, to a popular ale house, or just casual shopping. Also downtown you will find a world class venue by the name of Bankhead Theater that seats 507 guests. It offers a full stage for music, theater, dance, lectures, and civic events and conferences. Surrounding the town you will find many trails where you are able to walk, jog, skate, and ride a bike or a horse. These trails will take you from park to park, stake park, bicycle stunt course, and even the rodeo grounds; where the World’s Fastest Rodeo takes place. Since 1918 the Livermore Rodeo has been a large part of the Livermore culture, and is usually held the second weekend in June. They have everything from a Queen and Princess competition to BBQ, and a Buckin’ a Saloon that all lead to the main event. And if you are looking to get away but don’t feel like traveling too far, Del Valle Regional Park and Lake is a beautiful lakeside resort. It lies in a deep valley and surrounded by oak covered hills. Many people go there to spend the day or camp the weekend, and do activities such as swimming,, windsurfing, boating, kayaking, horseback riding, and study nature. This is also the eastern gateway to the Ohlone Wilderness Trail. Whatever you are looking for, Livermore has this and much more to offer!
